Alain Prost was a highly successful F1 driver, taking four world titles and a staggering 51 GP victories. His driving style was calculating and smooth, often coming from behind rather than fighting at the front. He started his F1 career with the McLaren team in 1980, and then moved on to Renault and it's pioneering turbo engines. The move to Renault saw Prost begin to accumulate his GP win tally, and he came close to winning the title in 1983, eventually losing out to Piquet. In 1984 he moved to McLaren and fought a season long battle with team mate Niki Lauda, losing out narrowly again. In 1985 Prost took five more GP wins and coasted to his first title win with relative ease. In 1986 he had serious opposition from Williams team mates Nigel Mansell and Nelson Piquet, with Mansell looking a certain title winner at the final race in Australia, until an exploding rear tyre put him out, thus handing Prost his second title. In 1988 McLaren secured Honda engines, and an epic battle ensued between Prost and new team mate Ayrton Senna, a battle that Senna won. The following year saw the struggle continue, this time Prost took his third title. Prost then moved to Ferrari but enjoyed limited success, finally being sacked by the team in 1991, and then taking a sabbatical year in 1992. He returned to F1 in 1993, stepping straight into a world beating Williams car vacated by the departing Nigel Mansell, nothing could stop him from taking his fourth title that year. With the arrival of arch rival Senna at Williams in 1994, Prost retired from F1 and moved into team management..
