Damon Hill had a hard act to follow being the son of former double world champion Graham Hill. However he was a fighter, and after narrowly losing out to Michael Schumacher following a controversial collision, in the Australian GP in 1994, Hill went on to take the title driving for Williams in 1996. Hill was a smooth fast driver, and was always very competitive in the Williams. After winning the title he was typically released by Williams, and joined the Arrows team in 1998. He almost pulled off a dream first win for the team in the Hungarian GP, but was thwarted by mechanical failure, eventually finishing second to Jacques Villeneuve. The remainder of the season was devoid of success and Hill moved to Jordan for the 1998 season. The highlight of the year was a maiden win for Jordan in the Belgian GP at Spa leading home his team mate Ralf Schumacher. Hill retired at the end of the 1999 after a final lack lustre season with the Jordan team.
